Sub: Exhibition ‘SARI: The Magic of Indian Weaves’ by Ms. Rta Kapur Chishti.
1. The Embassy of India, Amman, in collaboration with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), New Delhi and Galleria Ras Al Ain, (GAM) and with support from Indian Women Association, Jordan has put up the Exhibition titled ‘SARI: The Magic of Indian Weaves’ by Ms. Rta Kapur Chishti which will remain open from 1st February 2015 to 10th February 2015 at the Galleria Ras Al Ain, Amman for general public.
2. Her Royal Highness Princess Basma bint Talal graced the occasion and inaugurated the event which is part of the ongoing 65th Anniversary celebrations of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Jordan.
3. Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador of the Republic of India to Jordan, Ambassador Trigunayat said, “Indian Saree is one of the most elegant costumes in the world. Surprisingly, although centuries old, this garment still continues to be graceful and enigmatic.” He further added that this exhibition is aimed at providing a glimpse of Indian Saree which is an integral part of Indian culture and ethos.
4. Ambassador Trigunayat also conveyed his deep appreciation to the Galleria Ras Al Ain, (GAM) for hosting the Exhibition and highlighted that the Exhibition, consisting of 36 Saris, is a tribute to the craftsmanship and skills of countless Indian spinners and weavers, showcased through saris. The Exhibits are taken from just seven of India’s states, representative of its north, south, east and west, and produced especially for this occasion. They reflect both traditional and contemporary design interpretations, highlighting a diversity of natural materials and techniques, as well as an evolving aesthetic and color story.
